Fondation Romel Joseph Pour L'Advancement Des Jeunes

Student Case History

The foundation received over 250 applicants between March 1 and August 31, 2004. These applications were from individuals requesting financial assistance and membership to the program. Due to our financial limitation, we were able to admit 25 students; 180 are on a waiting list and 45 were eliminated because they did not meet the foundation’s economic criteria in order to receive assistance.  In most cases, their parents were financially very stable. We hope that in the near future we will be able to help a greater number of them.

Simon, Agath

Agath was born on September 25, 1989, in Port-au-Prince. She has 1 brother and 7 sisters and is in 9th grade in College Evangelic Marantha. She lives with both parents. Her mother works as a maid for Centre Education Special (Center for Special Education) and her father is a mason. Agath would like to specialize in accounting and become an administrative secretary. She adores sewing and floral art and is a very responsible, hardworking student. Agath received an award of $1100 Haitian dollars from the foundation to help cover her academic tuition and fees and another $3000 Haitian dollars, which constitutes the fees for her English and computer classes for the 2004-2005 school year.

Jean Joseph, Dieusel

Dieusel was born on April 12, 1990, in Port-au-Prince. His parents are married and have 5 children. Dieusel is now in 6th grade in Ecole Shalom (Shalom School) where his mother works as a custodian. His father is mason and painter. Dieusel received an award of $500 Haitian dollars to help cover his academic tuition and fees and $3000 Haitian dollars which constitutes the fees for his English and computer classes for the 2004 2005 school year.

Laguerre, Jean Rony

Rony was born in Port-Au-Prince on September 14, 1976. His parents are not married but live together. He is one of 2 children. His father is a barman and his mother is a cook.  Due to their financial limitations, Rony has not been able to complete his high school studies; consequently he came to the foundation seeking assistance.  He would also like the Foundation to sponsor him in a vocational program where he can complete a degree in electricity or refrigeration studies.  He is very focused and shows great interest in all the activities of the foundation.

Frage, Antoine

Antoine was born on June 14, 1981 in Port-Au-Prince. He is now studying Economic Science at the State University of Haiti. His mother is a seamstress, and his father died in 1982.  He would like to study Computer Basics but needs assistance with book purchases for his university studies. He is a very introverted student but he seems to care greatly for the well-being of his community.

Nael, Aine

Aine was born in Port-Au-Prince in 1981.  His father died in 1985.  Aine lives with his uncle because his mother resides in the country side working as a small farmer. He is presently studying Psychology at the State University of Haiti.  Aine's studies were first financed by his uncle; who is now elderly and no longer able to work and support his nephew.  Aine needs the foundation to help him cover the fees for school materials. He has demonstrated excellent academic and social skills.  He is always ready to tutor other foundation students who have academic needs.

Cyprien, Mackenson

Mackenson was born in 1980, in Carrefour; a suburb of Port-Au-Prince. His parents are not married but live together with 4 children.  His father works in ceramics and passed on this art to Mackenson. In fact, he was so well trained by his father, Makenson went to Centre d’Art de Port-Au-Prince to study the art of ceramics.  In addition to his talent and knowledge of ceramics, Mackenson has a certificate in computer repair.  Ultimately, he would like to pursue a degree in computer science and accounting. We are hoping with our assistance, his dream will become reality.

Berlus, Junior

Junior was born on July 10, 1980 in Petit-Goave, a small town in the South of Haiti. His parents were not married and have 5 children. His father died in 1995. His mother makes her living as a street vendor. He would like the foundation to assist him in obtaining a degree in journalism or law. Before his father's death, he taught Junior the art of painting. Based on the skills he keenly demonstrates in the classes that we offer to the students of the Foundation, his sharp and accurate observations indicate that he could, indeed, be a fine lawyer.

Elgin, Declasse

Declasse was born in Port-Au-Prince on December 26, 1985. His parents are not married but are taking care of 9 children. His mother is a saleswoman, mostly around the street markets making very little money. His father works as a security officer for a law firm. Due to financial difficulties, Declasse was not able to continue with his schooling in 10th grade. Once he heard about FRJAJ, he came soliciting our assistance. He is a very bright and promising young student. His dream is to study medicine or law once he is done with high school.

Jean, Ruth

Ruth was born in Port-au-Prince in 1983. She is an orphan. Her mother died while giving birth to her eighth child, and Ruth never knew the father. She was cared for by her maternal grandfather. Now that he is 87 years old, he can no longer support Ruth and the older children.  She solicited the foundation to help with her education. She has just graduated from  high school and is preparing to take the state entrance exam in order to pursue a degree in business administration.
